Growing with the Channel – The Synnex Australia Story

7 July, 2025

Every business has a beginning but some journeys leave a lasting mark. Synnex Australia’s story began with a clear purpose: to deliver dependable technology distribution to the Australian channel. Over the years, that mission has evolved, driven by a relentless focus on service, innovation, and growth.

The Early Days

Founded in 1997 as a modest operation with a focus on IT hardware distribution, Synnex entered the Australian market with a commitment to reliability and strong vendor partnerships. From day one, our goal was simple: to make it easier for channel partners to access the technology and support they needed to succeed.

Scaling Up with the Industry

As the technology landscape shifted, so did we. We grew our offerings from hardware to include software, licensing, services, and eventually cloud and cybersecurity solutions. Our investment in automation and cloud positioned us as more than just a distributor. We became a technology enabler and solutions aggregator for the modern IT channel.

Over time, we introduced a broad range of services such as:

  • Cloud and CSP platforms
  • Managed solutions
  • Business automation tools
  • Configuration, Consultation, and Pre-Sales services
  • Diverse vendor partnerships across AI, devices, and security
  • Tech support and training, sales and marketing enablement

These vendor-agnostic solutions and services allowed our partners to scale with confidence and future-proof their businesses.

Milestones That Mattered

From our first warehouse to national expansion, and through our deepening relationships with global tech brands, every milestone has been shaped by the needs of our channel. We weathered market shifts, enabled digital transformation, and helped thousands of partners navigate complex transitions, from Windows refresh cycles to the rise of cloud-first businesses.

The People Behind the Progress

Much of what we’ve achieved over the past two decades has been shaped by the people who have grown alongside us. Many team members and senior leaders have been with Synnex since the early days, contributing not only to our operational growth but also to the culture of trust, stability, and long-term partnership that defines us. Their deep knowledge of the channel, strong relationships, and unwavering commitment have guided Synnex through rapid transformation, ensuring we remain grounded in our values while evolving with the industry.

In August 2023, Kee Ong, CEO of Synnex ANZ, was appointed as Group Chief Executive Officer for Synnex Headquarters. Following this transition, Arthur Gimisis was welcomed as the new Chief Executive Officer for Synnex ANZ.
